Take the performance to the next level. 

The field season ends. The performance doesn’t.

Forte is Souderton Area High School’s indoor color guard ensemble, bringing together students who love performing, moving, creating, and being part of a team.

If you were part of the Big Red Marching Band this year, you can be part of Forte!

And here’s the best part:

YOU DO NOT NEED COLOR GUARD EXPERIENCE TO JOIN.

Never spun a flag? Never danced? Never performed guard before?

That’s okay! Forte is a place to learn, grow, challenge yourself, and discover what you can do.

MORE THAN JUST SPINNING FLAGS

Forte combines dance, movement, choreography, and equipment work to tell a story and bring a theme to life.

You’ll learn routines, master choreography, perform with a team, and work together to create something that is bigger than any one person.

Every performance is an opportunity to push yourself a little further—and experience the excitement of performing for an audience.

YOU’LL GET TO:

Dance & move
Learn choreography and develop your performance skills.

Create & perform
Bring music, themes, and visual storytelling to life.

Learn equipment work
Develop skills with flags and other equipment—even if you’re starting from scratch.

Build your team
Train, practice, compete, and create memories with your teammates.

Take the floor at competitions and exhibitions throughout the winter and spring.

THE INDOOR SEASON

When marching band season comes to an end, Forte keeps the momentum going.

The indoor season typically runs from December/ January through the first weekend in May, with competitions beginning in late January and taking place on several Saturdays throughout the season.

Forte competes and performs on the Tournament Indoor Association (TIA) circuit, giving students the opportunity to perform alongside indoor groups from throughout the region.

The skills, friendships, confidence, and teamwork you build during marching band don’t have to end when football season does.

Keep performing. Keep improving. Keep creating.

Looking for a place to make friends, perform, travel, and be part of something bigger than yourself? The Souderton Area High School “Big Red” Marching Band is the largest student organization at the high school—and everyone is welcome!

🎺 BRING THE ENERGY ALL FALL!

The Fall season is where the Big Red comes alive! Marching Band members perform at:

  • All home football games — including pre-game and halftime performances, plus stand tunes throughout the game
  • Several community parades throughout the season
  • Marching band competitions where students perform alongside bands from across the region
  • Special performances and events throughout the school year

Whether you’re on the field performing a halftime show, playing in the stands with your friends, marching down Main Street, or traveling to a competition, there’s always something happening!

🇺🇸 SPRING & COMMUNITY EVENTS

The Big Red doesn’t disappear when football season ends! During the spring, students participate in scheduled parade practices and perform in the Memorial Day Parade, along with other performances and special events throughout the school year.

The Big Red Marching Band is about much more than music.

It’s about friendship, teamwork, school spirit, leadership, confidence, and creating memories that last long after graduation. You’ll meet people from across the school, learn to work together as a team, and become part of a tradition that has brought Souderton students together for generations.

You don’t have to be the best musician. You don’t have to be an upperclassman. And you don’t have to know anyone when you join.

Encore! Indoor Percussion

ENCORE! INDOOR PERCUSSION

The beat doesn’t stop when the marching season ends.

Ready to take your percussion skills off the field and onto the competition floor?

Encore! is Souderton Area High School’s indoor percussion ensemble, where Big Red musicians come together during the winter and spring to create an exciting, high-energy production combining music, movement, visual performance, and teamwork.

If you were a member of the Big Red Marching Band this year, you can be part of Encore!

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A PERCUSSION EXPERT.

Prior percussion experience is not required.

Whether you’ve spent years behind a drum kit or you’re interested in trying something new, Encore! gives you an opportunity to develop your skills and become part of a competitive performing ensemble.

Students interested in playing drums or cymbals should have a basic understanding of marching while performing music. Placement tryouts help determine the best role for each performer.

TURN MUSIC INTO A PERFORMANCE

Indoor percussion is more than playing your part.

You’ll learn music and choreography, develop precision and timing, move as an ensemble, and perform a complete production designed to challenge both the performers and the audience.

Every sound, movement, and visual moment works together.

YOU’LL GET TO:

Play — Develop your skills on drums, cymbals, and other percussion instruments.

Perform — Bring music and visual elements together in a full indoor production.

Push yourself — Learn challenging music and develop skills through rehearsal and performance.

Work as a team — Build trust, timing, and precision with your ensemble.

Compete — Perform in competitions and exhibitions throughout the winter and spring.

TAKE THE BIG RED TO THE COMPETITION FLOOR

When football season ends, Encore! keeps the energy going.

Our indoor groups compete on the Tournament of Bands/Tournament Indoor Association (TIA) circuit, performing alongside other indoor ensembles from throughout the region.

The competitive season typically runs from December/January through the first weekend in May, with competitions held on several Saturdays beginning in late January.

Practice schedules vary from year to year.

KEEP THE BEAT GOING

Marching band may be over for the season, but that doesn’t mean you’re ready to put your instrument away.

Encore! gives you another opportunity to perform, compete, improve, and make music with the people who understand why you love it.

And you don’t have to know exactly what you’re capable of yet.

That’s what rehearsal is for.

Volunteering Opportunities

Before you volunteer, you must fulfill the SASD volunteer requirements. BRBB volunteers are considered “Program Volunteers.” Program Volunteers shall be required to renew these clearances every 60 months.
